Africa: Day 6

Sunday May 16
What a blessed day! We went to another town, Seeta (pronounced Set-uh) for church because it's the branch that Lou and Jeri are assigned to. The drive didn't take too long because there were much less people on the road. There was an awesome brick farm on the way though. Ok not a brick farm, but they make bricks on the side of the roads. Its crazy!!
It was awesome to hear that there are tons of people that are religious, in many different faiths. I was really impressed with the turn out of the branch too. My guess is about 25 people or so. The building had 4 separate rooms. In the middle room, we met for Sacrament meeting (where they also had Sunday School and Priesthood meeting). Everyone shakes hands to greet each other. They had 2 sets of missionaries in the branch (other than L&J). One of them was being transferred to Ethiopia, so they asked him to bear his testimony. A new 1st Counselor in the Branch Presidency was called, so they asked the former and the new counselors to bear their testimonies too. And because Collin and I were visiting, they asked us to bear ours as well. Talk about a spiritual experiences! These people are so humble, but have such strong testimonies and cling to the gospel so firmly. Their faith doesn't waiver. They they sing their hymns with such fervor. I LOVED it! SO, naturally, I wept like a baby which was absolutely embarrassing (especially because I found out later that the people don't show emotion like tears). Anyway, after mine, Collin bored his and is so sweet. I'm so lucky to be married to such a phenomenal guy After we shared our testimonies, we were blessed to hear from the Stake President (Pres. Okot) who was visiting. What a treat! There's only 1 stake in the entire country of Uganda! What a rock this man is. He gave an incredible talk and testimony and really inspired us to be better saints and share the gospel with everyone we know. This is him on the right, with his wife and daughter. The other two guys were great. So nice and they all smile so much, but not as much with pictures I guess.
After the meeting ended, Jeri found out that the Relief Society president (who was supposed to teach R.S.) didn't show up and turned off her phone. And also that there was no Young Women teacher. Branch President Okello talked it over with Jeri and they decided she would teach R.S. and I could teach Y.W. I was humbled and came up with a few thoughts. Somehow after not being in YW for 8 years, I pieced together the YS Theme. It's amazing how with the help of the Spirit, an actual lesson can be pulled out in not much time at all.
I fell in love with these 6 girls as we talked about standing as a witness of God! Afterwards, I was sure to take a picture with them (all but Rita).
And that created a domino effect, so we ended up getting a few photos with branch members and President Okot. This guy, Simon Peter, slyly handed Collin a piece of paper that had his name, phone number, address and email address on it! He was so sweet! Such a nice guy.
We don't even know this couple, but they wanted a picture, so we took one!!
The rest of the Sabbath was totally mellow. We played some SkipBo, some Speed Scrabble, and Lou made yummy Mexican casserole and homemade masa tortillas. And then we packed to prepare for Safari #2. We slept the entire night, miraculously enough!
